A deeper look at value and the hospital value analysis team at AHVAP 2016 Oct. 19-21 in Scottsdale

Updated: Feb 12

Within healthcare’s shift from fee-for-service to value-based care, one new team in the hospital ecosystem is playing a role capable of affecting patients, clinicians, supply chain managers and more. The Value Analysis Team (VAT, sometimes referred to as the Value Analysis Committee) is becoming increasingly responsible for ensuring hospital products and medical devices contribute to reducing costs, improving outcomes, clinical utility and patient satisfaction associated with those products.

From an excellent, forward-looking VAT overview article published in MDDI online, “Medical device manufacturers that understand and respond to the current and evolving role of VACs will have a market advantage. It will be essential for manufacturers to understand the VAC process and future direction, identify and quantify the entire product value proposition, provide evidence for value assessment, and create systems to optimally communicate with VAC stakeholders.”

Through this lens, we are proud to sponsor and eagerly anticipate attending the Association of Healthcare Value Analysis Professionals – AHVAP 2016 – conference October 19-21 in Scottsdale, Az. A few of the specific sessions we have our eyes on include:

  • Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 12:30 p.m. – Process-focused Value Analysis: Looking at the Big Picture to Foster Real Change.Every one of our global sourcing programs aligns with the big, value-based care picture by improving utility and reducing costs associated with common, commoditized hospital products. How can we improve our processes to support large hospital and IDNs capability to deliver value? We’ll see!

  • Thursday, Oct. 20 at 11:15 a.m. – Supplier Relationships 2.0: Realigning Roles and Expectations Between Suppliers and Supply Chain Management Staff to Achieve Better Product Conversion Outcomes.Hospital supply chain managers depend on our global sourcing programs’ capabilities of improving outcomes and utility while simultaneously reducing costs. We can’t wait to connect with the professionals in the room to talk about meeting and exceeding what they expect from a supplier.

  • Friday, Oct. 21 at 8:00 a.m. – Driving the “Value” in Value Analysis Through Physician Engagement. We know well the influential role physicians and clinicians play in hospital purchasing. If the VAT and its partners fail to deliver products physicians and clinicians want, with meaningful improvement over products currently in use, those efforts are wasted. We look forward to learning from the experts in the room on, as well as sharing our own experiences with, effective physician engagement for medical product uptake.
